5 Easy Inexpensive Decorating Tips...
We’re all watching our spending habits in this economy. Here are few
quick tips for maximizing the power of your decorating dollar:
1) Paint one wall. Be bold! Pick a color you love and try it out
on one wall. What have you got to lose? That’s right: the cost of the
paint. A new, fresh color could change the whole mood of the room.
2) Reupholster the seats of your chairs. You don’t have to know
how to sew to do this. Find a print you love on the sale rack (Jo-Ann
Fabrics is a great store for fabric). Turn the chair over and unscrew
the bolts to remove the seat. Remove the old stapled-on fabric using a
flat knife. If the chair cushion or foam material is still in good shape
all the better. If it’s not, it’s inexpensive to replace. Next, just
place the new fabric over the chair cushion, pulling it taut and use a
heavy duty staple gun to staple the fabric to the underside of the seat.
Another way to add some zip to your color palette!
3) Go to stores that are closing or offering great sales. Linens
‘N Things is a good example. I just found beautiful drapes for my Living
Room and Dining Room at 40% off at a Linens ‘N Things store that was
going out of business. Even if they aren’t closing their doors for good,
many retailers are enticing consumers with fantastic sales. Home Goods
is a great place to find reasonably priced artwork and accessories.
Kirkland’s Home, Marshalls and TJ Maxx are also good choices.
4) Refinish an old piece of furniture. This is
an inexpensive way to create a new look for an old piece you already
own. Or, you can find very reasonably priced wood furniture pieces at
Good Will and other thrift stores. Have some fun! Sand it down, and then
paint it, stencil it or stain it. Low cost, fun and you end up with your
own unique piece!
5) Give yourself flowers. A simple bouquet of
flowers in a beautiful vase can bring color, cheer and good energy into
a room. Treat yourself. It won’t cost you much, and it will bring you
instant pleasure!
