DAY Four
Eleanor Rooselvelt has a great quote, “do one thing every day that scares you.” A life and/or business that is interesting has to involve a bit of fear. scaredBy venturing outside your comfort zone, you will open the door to new experiences and move closer to your goal of success.
Fear can be a powerful motivator or stop you in your tracks. What frightens you? Is it public speaking, fear of failure, or perhaps a fear of success? You have a choice, move toward it or away from it.
I have a horrible fear of water. I had some bad experiences as a child and never learned to swim. Last year on a cruise, I had a chance to swim with the dolphins. Life jacket in place, I almost threw up from the fear of going into that 20′ deep water. But for a number of reasons, I knew I had to do it. First, I would have regretted missing that opportunity, second, how can I tell my students (and my grandchildren) to face their fears, if I don’t do the same. So into the water I went, alternately clutching my husband and the guide. But I was there, I was proud, and I will never do it again! (okay, I admit it) I don’t need to do it again, swimming with dolphins will not grow my business. But the fear stopping you may be the very roadblock that is slowing your business growth. So come on, “let’s go swim with the dolphins.”

What is the fear that is stopping you from marketing your business? Come on, put on your life vest, and jump in! Are you afraid to speak in front of a group? Then run, don’t walk to the nearest phone and schedule a speaking engagement with a church group, womens group, your peers, or a few good friends who willl allow you to hone your skills on them. Your dare today is to do one thing that scares you and will help you to gain credibility in your field.

- Public Speaking-Terrified to stand in front of a group? Then schedule a webinar, no one is looking at you, but you will gain credibility as an industry expert.
- Newsletters-no idea what to say? Check out your industry for pre-printed industry newsletter templates with fill in the blanks.
- Working with your first client-schedule your first appointment and then ask a peer with more experience to be your “wing man.” You will interact with the client but they can help you to remember the words or actions that will guarantee a long lasting relationship with your new client.
