DAY FIVE MOTIVATION:You’ve got People

ONE DAY DECORATING PRESENTS…We Dare You to Succeed!
DAY FIVE

The world really wants you to succeed. After all, if you succeed, you may be able to provide employment to others.  You will pay self employment taxes and help the economy to grow.   You will be able to give more to charity to help others less fortunate.  Your business may spin off other businesses. Yes, the world wants you to succeed.  In fact, there are many resources that will guide you at little or no charge.

The Small Business Administration offers a wealth of information online in addition to live support in a variety of ways. SCORE, SBDC, and Women’s Business Centers are some of the “hand-holding” options that the SBA provides, in most cases at no charge.  Not only can you access a wealth of information online, but you may also connect live with a real person or team of people who will guide you.

In my 30+ years in business, I have failed and succeeded.  And in the early years, I wasn’t quite sure how to tell the difference.  I was lonely, confused and quite frankly, didn’t have any idea of how to grow a business. I thought I needed to do it all, after all, wasn’t that the hallmark of a successful entrepreneur.  Then I discovered the staff at our local  SBDC and SCORE. I received great advice in marketing, setting up my books, and even had a meeting with an accomplished author who gave me advice on publishing a book.

That advice also taught me that I needed a support  team. I realized I didn’t have to “do it all.”  It made sense for me to have a bookkeeping service do my books and allowed me to spend more time growing my business. I learned that it makes sense to delegate elements of your business that are not your strength. That has led to wonderful people like Karen McMinn, (my bookkeeper) who works for me and 2 other entrepreneurs, Cheryl Hessinger, who I farm out some of my administrative details to and recently the addition of Meg LeFauve, a virtual assistant who will help me to stay on top of Internet responsiblities.  I found my people!

TODAY’S DARE:Gather your People

Today you need to establish your professional support team. Do you have an accountant and attorney you can call on yet?   Is bookkeeping your weakness, then find a competent service who keeps your books up to date to share with your accountant a couple of times a year.  While you are at it, schedule an appointment with your SBA local office and take advantage of the services available to you. It doesn’t matter if your business is old or new, there is help for you.
